TRUSTEE TRAINING (Standard programme)

 

The day includes the Charity Commission Video “It’s a question of trust”

 

AIM

To inform trustees of the main responsibilities and requirements of their role under current legislation and to consider good practice

recommendations, including where applicable those established by the Charity Commission.

 

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the day participants should be able to:

• State the main requirements in relation to appointing trustees

• Explain the importance of joint liability and it implications for delegation, risk management and insurance

• Considered the implications for trustees in relation to data protection and employment law

• Understand the requirements for charity accounting and their role in approving the accounts annually

• Explain what a conflict of interest is and how it should be dealt with

• Considered the needs of their organisation in terms of the role of trustees

AIM

To enable participants to learn techniques that will assist them in their role as Chairperson and to discuss problems they may have encountered.

 

OBJECTIVES

 

By the end of the training participants will have :

 

• Understood the importance of planning a meeting before chairing it

• Used good practice information to improve their planning and chairing of meetings

• Discussed how to handle disputes and controversies within a meeting

• Discussed practical ways to keep a meeting to the time scales allowed

• Discussed how to handle conflicts of interest and the legal implications of failure to act appropriately

• Undertaken practical exercises to develop their skills as a Chairperson

 

THE ROLE OF THE  SECRETARY

 

AIM

To enable participants to develop their skills as Secretary and to discuss problems they may have encountered with a view to sharing good practice.

 

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the day participants will have:

 

• Understood their duties with regard to

• Correspondence

• Agenda setting

• Minute taking

• Record keeping

• Considered the importance of liasing with other officers

• Developed their skills in relation to

• Agenda setting

• Considered the importance of Charity Commission returns and how they should be dealt with

 

 

 

DEVELOPING A BUSINESS PLAN

 

AIM

By the end of the day participants will have considered the major functions, structural options and practical issues

in relation to business planning.

Who will use the business plan

Who needs to be involved in business planning
